Brenda Unwin is an East Anglian based artist whose work is in many public and private collections.

The perception and analysis of colour relationships underpins my work across various media. Those relationships are deliberate and precise. Abstraction allows me to encapsulate the experience of being in a particular place.

She also works collaboratively on specific projects in a range of media (see Collaborations).

Selected for In Proximity

Magenta Quinacidrone, Quinacidrone Gold.
Watercolour. Framed 37cm x 37cm

I want to explore what happens when two or three colours are combined through the repeated addition and subtraction of pigment and water.

Colours at the edges reveal the original pigments, the making process and are also like glimpses experienced at the edges of vision.

I hope that by stripping back the watercolours to their essence they not only retain their translucency but also reveal unexpected nameless colours that have the capacity to evoke an emotion or chain of memories.
